Komal graduated from the University of Florida with a double major in history and microbiology and went on to earn a master’s in public health at the University of South Florida, where her focus was on epidemiology and global communicable disease. She volunteered at the Alachua County Health Department with HIV/AIDS counseling and testing and with the Wockhardt-Harvard Medical International HIV/AIDS Research Foundation in Mumbai, India. She also served as a public school and Big Brothers/Big Sisters mentor. She participated in several alternative spring break projects, including one in the Dominican Republic. At USF, she was a graduate research assistant in the medical school’s Division of Infectious Disease and International Medicine. “I aspire to be a community-based physician who integrates public health principles into a medical career,” Komal said. “I believe in the FSU College of Medicine’s vision to train compassionate physicians who understand both the clinical and socio-cultural components of health care.”
