Florida State University
Student Organization of
the Year

The American Medical Women's Association (AMWA) is a national
organization that is dedicated to promoting women's health,
improving the professional development and personal well-being of
its members, and increasing the influence of women in all aspects of
the medical profession.
AMWA began at FSU as an affiliated group (with the University of
Florida College of Medicine's AMWA chapter) of medical and
undergraduate students in the era of the Program in Medical
Sciences. In the fall of 2001, the new Florida State University
College of Medicine was granted its own AMWA branch chapter. In the
spring of 2003, the medical student chapter branched from the
undergraduate chapter to be able to better accommodate the needs of
FSU medical students.
The FSU College of Medicine's AMWA chapter is committed to
continuing our strong service record within the community of
Tallahassee. Past AMWA activities have included adopting a family
for Thanksgiving, stockings and caroling for nursing home patients,
organization of a basketball tournament for children at a boy's
correctional facility, and visiting with cerebral palsy patients.
The new executive board and advisor for the organization at the FSU
College of Medicine are developing an exciting curriculum for the
coming year! If you'd like to receive more information about
upcoming activities, then please e-mail the officers.
