FSU College of Medicine Reynolds Grant
The Senior Artist Project

Tallahassee Senior Center for the ArtsThe art work on display in the Clinical Learning Center and on the 3rd floor outside of the Geriatrics Department represents the work of older adult artists living in the Tallahassee area. These artists have loaned their work for our enjoyment and to increase awareness of local art programs, to enhance appreciation of the diverse talents of older adults, and to explore the contribution of art to enhance quality of life.

Each artist is a member of the Tallahassee Senior Center for the Arts, a program of Tallahassee Senior Services, a division of the city's Neighborhood and Community Services department. Founded in 1980, the Center for the Arts offers a supportive environment for both beginning and advanced artists to receive guidance from experienced instructors.

Senior art students also benefit from ongoing art exhibits, workshops, and opportunities to display and sell their art. Ongoing classes include portraiture, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, and painting classes in oil, acrylic and watercolor. Nearly 100 participants attend class each week. It is funded through student fees, generous donations, and fundraising efforts by the Tallahassee Senior Citizens Foundation.

Faculty, staff, and students at FSU College of Medicine appreciate the opportunity to partner with Tallahassee Senior Center and its artists with support from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation in bringing art to the community.
