Internal Medicine Residency

Message from the Program Director

Claudia Kroker-Bode, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P.

Welcome from the PD

A very warm welcome and thank you for your interest in our wonderful internal medicine residency program here in Tallahassee, FL. We are fully ACGME accredited and sponsored by Florida State University (FSU) College of Medicine, operated in conjunction with Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH). We put together all sorts of information for your review to get to know us better. We hope that after you review our website, you will start loving our residency, as we do!

We are educating highly professional, competent, diverse, and outstanding physicians with excellent communication skills and empathy in a community hospital with an academic sponsorship. We expect you to already possess great communication skills and have the highest sense of respect, accountability, and professionalism. Because we aim to lead by example, teaching evidence-based medicine, and using advanced technologies, without forgetting the human touch and relationships. We are improving the quality of care for our patients through teaching and with making bedside procedures safer. We aim to retain our physician workforce in Florida to enable the best care for our aging population. We enhance wellness for our physicians by paying attention to private life situations and arising needs, enabling them to be the best physician possible. If you feel touched by these words, then we want you! You should really apply to us and see for yourself.

We believe in offering the right balance of didactic experiences through morning report, noon lectures, journal club, M&M, etc., and an emphasis in on-hands experience. We do believe in leading by example while we teach evidence-based medicine. Medical students enhance the training of our residents, because residents learn by teaching.

The program is dedicated to helping you grow into a highly professional, competent, empathetic and outstanding physician while in a community hospital with an academic and collegial environment. Wellness is not only a 'word’ to us. We believe fun and laughter brings happiness! Equality of human beings and acceptance of each other is our basis for operation. Respect for each other and for all life, including animals is a basic belief we all share. The program offers diversity among teachers and colleagues and promises to provide you with the most solid internal medicine education you can achieve while preparing you for primary care, hospitalist career and fellowship.

Tallahassee is the capital of Florida, it is not Miami, and has a vibrant arts and culture scene with great sports and rivalries. An abundance of outdoor recreation and cultural events is available for all ages. We simply love living here in our university town.

I am looking forward to getting to know you and hope that you stay in the area after your training.

Dr. KB
