Instructions for entering Blackboard, Finding Your Course,
Entering the Course and Navigating Within the Course
Blackboard is a web based course management tool which allows for
the electronic delivery of information and instructional materials.
Here is what you do to access the materials. Before you start the
process of following these instructions I suggest printing them out
for ease of following.
- Go to the FSUCOM home page at http://www.med.fsu.edu/
- Click on the word Blackboard over on the left side of the home
page.
- You now see a screen with boxes in which you type your username
and password. This is what we refer to as your mailer account
username and password. Your user name usually contains the first
letter of your first name followed by letters in your last name
(e.g. dbaker) and your password is 6-8 characters with at least one
non-alphanumeric character as part of it.
- Then click on the "Login" button.
- If successful, you will now see a new screen and over on the
right you will see a box entitled My Courses and in that box
you will see the official name of the clerkships/courses to which
you have access. You will see these course names in blue letters
(e.g. FAMILY MED CLERKSHIP (BCC6175-01.su03). Click on the course
name to enter that course.
- Now you should see the “Welcome Page” for the course and over on
the left you will see what we call the areas or area buttons. To see
the contents of one of the areas, just click on the name (e.g.
Objectives). You have to click on the letters of the name.
Your cursor should change to a little hand with a pointing finger.
- Lets say you clicked on the area button named "Objectives." Now
you will see "Objectives" titled in bold and just below it you will
see the phrase, “click to view in Word” in blue letters. Click on
the blue letters and you will then be viewing a Word file that was
uploaded from a hard drive to the Blackboard web site. Not everyone
has set their course up the same way but the key is to click on
phrases or titles with blue letters to view a file/document.
- Now try clicking on other area buttons to see the contents of
those areas.
- Like any web program, one way to navigate around is to use the
back button of your browser.
