Life in Tallahassee

The City
Tallahassee, nestled among the rolling hills of northwest Florida, is only 20 miles north of the Gulf of Mexico and 14 miles south of Georgia. As the state capital, Tallahassee is home to two major universities and a community college, which have a combined total of 60,000 students. With a median age of 26.3, Tallahassee is Florida’s youngest city.  Tallahassee experiences the mild, moist climate of the Gulf states, along with a subtropical summer similar to the rest of Florida. Because of its location between these two regions, Tallahassee experiences all four seasons.

The University
As a Carnegie I Research Institution, Florida State University provides a rich research environment with a number of very successful programs that span the biomedical sciences. These include structural biology, neuroscience, chemistry, and biochemistry. Research at FSU is also supported by the School of Computational Science and Informational Technology, and the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory.
