Proteomics is the systematic and comprehensive study of
proteins. The Biomedical Proteomics Laboratory (BPL) is a
College of Medicine (COM) Core Lab facility and serves as an
integral part of the COM research community. The primary mission
of this Core Lab Facility is to support and advance the research
programs of the COM faculty, by providing service, training
and/or consultation. However, these resources are available to
the Florida State University community based on a service-level
agreement.
For terms and conditions of instrument training, service and/or
consultation please follow the directions on the
user request
form.
The BPL hours of operation are 8:00-17:00, Monday through
Friday.
The BPL capabilities include:
- Protein separation/fractionation (sample preparation for
mass spectrometry and differential gel expression)
- Characterization of a complete profile of proteins in a
cell, tissue, or biological system
- Protein ID/sequence information
- Analysis of protein modifications
- Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass
spectrometry of proteins and peptides
- Multi-dimensional LC-MS/MS
- Microscale in-gel tryptic digestion
- 2D gel electrophoresis technologies including
isoelectric focusing, one and two-dimensional gel
elctrophoresis, staining, spot excision and spot
identification
- Two-dimensional fluorescence difference gel
electrophoresis (2D DIGE)
- Examination of macromolecular interactions
- Analysis of protein function, stability, and some
aspects of structure
- Training in proteomics technologies
- Proteomics methods development and consultation
