Membership Information

Students who are pursuing a pre-medical and pre-health profession are welcome to apply for MAPS membership. There are no specific requirements to be a general member other than submitting an application along with the appropriate fee. However, to participate in certain programs you are required to be an inducted member. Members can be inducted accumulation a set number of points per semester. These points are earned through involvement in community service projects, fundraising activities, attending meetings, and tutoring. Induction ceremonies are held at the end of each semester in honor of the achievements from that term.

Requirements to be inducted:

In order for a student to become an inducted member they must obtained:

  • a 3.3 Semester Grade Point Average or higher
  • the minimum of points attained per semester. These points are accumulated by members being involved in community service projects, fund-raising activities, attending bi-weekly meetings/workshop, tutoring and study sessions

MAPS POINT SYSTEM

To be inducted into MAPS, all members must attain 40 points during the fall semester. This can be gained in many ways. The point breakdown is as follows:

MEETINGS (7)
(must attend at least 4)
3 POINTS (21 pts. Max)
Study Groups
(must attend at least 15)
1 POINT/SESSIONS
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 1 POINT/2 HOURS
Fundraising
(must attend at least 2)
1 POINT
BOGGY CREEK 6 POINTS/WEEKEND
SOCIALS 1 POINT
COMMITTEE MEETINGS 1 POINT
SSTRIDE 10 POINTS/25 HOURS
COMPASS 4 POINTS

  • Medical Student Panels
  • Physician Health Panel
  • Physician Partnership
  • Collegiate Mentoring Program
  • Guest Speakers consisting of various health care providers and Medical Schools representatives
  • Study Groups
  • Community Service
  • Boggy Creek Gang Camp for terminally ill children
  • Canned Food Drive
  • Mentoring and tutoring with middle and high school students involved in pre-college outreach programs
  • Social Events for participating members
