July, 2004 Report

The co-chairs for the group will remain the same for 2004/05:

  • Dennis Baker, Ph.D. ( Florida State University College of Medicine)
  • Julie Robbs, M.A. (Southern Illinois University School of Medicine)

The GEP met in Toronto at the annual meeting and discussed goals for the next year. The next meeting will be at the Predoctoral Education Conference in Albuquerque, NM in January, 2005. We continue to discuss action items via email and our listserve.

Presentations:
Members of the group presented the following at the 2004 Predoctoral Education Conference in New Orleans:

  1. Seminar, Professional Educator-Physician Partnerships:Key Ingredients for Successful Collaborations at the 2004 Predoctoral Education Conference (Marconi Monteiro, Kathryn Chappelle, Julie Robbs, LuAnne Stockton).

2004 Annual Conference in Toronto:

  1. Roundtable: Is There an Educator in the House? It Makes Sense and Saves Cents!
(Ellen Whiting, Dennis Baker, Kathryn Chappelle). There was valuable discussion about attendees’ perspectives and experiences working as/with educators and how we might refine the description of our roles and contributions to family medicine education.
  2. Poster: The Educator is In! (David Yens, Susan Labuda-Schrop). This provided an opportunity for attendees to meet one-on-one with an experienced educator for advice on specific educational projects/dilemmas. We may update the poster for future presentations.
